As many times as I have been to Paris, I never visited or even knew about this little gem of a museum. Located in the 8th arrondissement at 158 Blvd. Haussmann, Musee Jacquemart Andre features the home and art collection of nineteenth century art collector Edouard André.
The mansion itself was built in 1869. Andre, the heir of a banking fortune, retired from the military and married Nélie Jacquemart, a portrait artist. The two shared a love of art and assembled a collection of more than 5,000 works of art. The collection includes pieces from the Italian Renaissance, 18th century French masterpieces, and works by the Flemish masters. The museum also has an outstanding gift shop.
The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and even has a book of activities to help children aged 7 to 12 explore the collection.
