Pere Lachaise Cemetery

April in Paris, goes the song, but the weather was more like March yesterday. Some sun early in the morning, but after my site inspection at Le Royal Monceau, we went to one place I've never before visited in my dozen or so trips to Paris, Pere Lachaise Cemetery.

We saw the graves of many notable citizens of Paris, and of the world, including the medieval monk Peter Abelard and his companion Heloise, Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison, and countless others. We would have seen more of the notables, but walking in the cold rain put a bit of a damper on things. And holding an umbrella in one hand and taking photographs with the other requires the agility of an acrobat (which I'm not). Thanks to Claire, who held the umbrella while I took off the lens cap and took pictures, I was able to capture some decent memories.

The soft light was beautiful, and the rain gave all the surfaces a nice reflective equality, so all in all, it was several hours well spent, even if we ended up a bit wet. But how can I complain about a bit of rain? After all, I'm in Paris, my favorite city in the world!
