will there be an iPad under your Christmas tree?

Will there be an iPad under your Christmas tree this year, either the iPad Air or the iPad Mini with retina screen? Since this is a public forum to which my significant others have access, I will have to answer with a definitive "no comment." But, personally, I find my iPad to be the perfect travel companion. All the books I could possibly want to read on a flight, games to play, music to listen to, even WiFi if I want to keep up with work.

But what if your loved one is not exactly tech-savvy? The iPad does not ship with much in the way of a manual, just a tiny little pamphlet, and some people need (or want) an instruction manual. If there's someone like that on your shopping list — here's the perfect companion for their new iPad (pictured at the left).

iPad: the missing manual, 6th ed. by J.D. Biersdorfer (O'Reilly, 2013) offers everything they'll need to get started. I received a review copy of the book and skimmed through it. Biersdorfer patiently explains what is intuitive for many, but her text will be appreciated by those who want step-by-step instructions for everything, as well as a "tour" of all of the features and apps on their new iPad. Definitely NOT for the power user, this book is the ideal resource for its intended reader. It's available on amazon.com and probably every online and brick and mortar bookstore out there.
