Auberge resorts in Napa County

I recently had the opportunity to spend two nights each at the two Auberge resorts in Napa County, the heart of the California wine country. Each was wonderful in its own way. Here are some of my wonderful memories.

Calistoga Ranch is a rustic resort at the north end of the Napa Valley, a few miles south of the town of Calistoga. The resort is set in a private canyon with guest reception at the bottom of the hill and the spa and restaurant at the top. We stayed in a Creekside Suite, a very spacious accommodation with a 600 sq. ft. bedroom, a large deck with jacuzzi and outdoor seating, and a separate 600 sq. ft. living room with Queen sofabed. Bedrooms are decorated in tones of cream and gold with dark brown accents and plantation shutters.

My wife truly enjoyed the spa at Calistoga Ranch which provides a large outdoor jacuzzi with perfectly placed jets and a small heated outdoor pool, as well as treatment rooms. The Virtuoso-included breakfast was excellent. Claire raved about the Hobbs bacon, and the resort's fresh baked English muffins were light and airy. Try them!

Auberge du Soleil is an elegant adults-only resort. In 1981, when Claude Rouas opened his Provencal restaurant in the wine country, it became apparent that guests should be able to spend the night after enjoying a fine meal and bottle(s) of vintage wine. Auberge du Soleil has 50 accommodations — 29 rooms, 19 suites, and one cottage — and each building is undergoing a rolling renovation to update every room and suite. "Old" rooms are decorated in a French Country "Provencal" style, while "new" deluxe rooms have been redone in a more contemporary Cote d'Azur style. While the rooms are beautiful, the view from our valley view suite was exquisite. Auberge du Soleil is one resort where you definitely want to pay for the view!

Although Auberge is not Virtuoso, guests receive complimentary breakfast daily ... and Virtuoso guests will receive an upgrade at time of booking if available and an additional welcome amenity.
