scenic drive to Applecross

Yesterday we took a scenic drive from The Torridon, our hotel in the Wester Ross region of Scotland, to Applecross. We drove a loop, taking the coastal road on the way south and returning on the twisting road up and over the mountains on the way back. Don't be frightened away by warnings that the mountain road is "not for novices." As long as the weather is good and the road is dry, the driving is fine ... and you will be rewarded with the view above when you reach the summit — although light is always the variable.

Applecross is a small village with a historic church and graveyard, small museum, and cute little craft shop. We ate lunch at the Applecross Inn. Though it's the only place to eat in town, the food was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed my Fish Pie.

If you're attracted to spectacular scenery, definitely make the drive to Applecross if you find yourself in this part of Scotland.
