Costa Rica | rainforest paradise

Just back from Costa Rica, and this is the first of several articles I plan to write about this beautiful country. We visited both the mountain rainforests and the beautiful beaches. Today's report — the Costa Rican rainforest.

Costa Rica is blessed with incredible biodiversity. One of the highlights of our trip was a hike across the Arenal Hanging Bridges. Our guide Hector truly loves nature. I was struck by the almost childlike excitement on his face when he spotted various fauna — a family of wild pigs, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, toucans, even leafcutter ants. (Hector guided Jimmy Carter on two occasions!)

And the flora... green, lush, and beautiful! I took picture after picture of colorful leaves and ferns. This was one of my favorites!

You can plan a trip on your own, but we benefited from the expertise of Rico Tours who assisted with our itinerary, activities, and hotels — and you get Virtuoso amenities when using a Virtuoso travel consultant.
