Berthillon | go to Paris, enjoy the ice cream!

Jennifer, pictured in front of Berthillon Glacier on the Ile St. Louis

Jennifer is my massage therapist, and she frequently visits Paris with her husband; they own a tiny apartment in the 1st arrondissement. I've been telling her for years that she absolutely must go to Berthillon — simply the best ice cream on the planet (in my own personal experience).

I recommend their dark chocolate ice cream, but Jen chose raspberry. Her verdict: "it was like raspberry x 100." See Jen's Yelp listing here, 41 well-deserved 5-star reviews.

For other ideas on what to see and do in Paris, just get in touch. Talking about Paris is what I do for fun!

death by ice cream

There are many compelling reasons to plan a vacation at Six Senses Laamu, a non-fussy, sand-between-your-toes, Virtuoso resort just 200 miles north of the equator in the Maldives. Gorgeous, clear sea water. Great snorkeling. A superb spa. Good food. It's even a good destination for surfers at the right time of the year when the waves are high.

But here's a reason you would not have guessed: free ice cream. There are 40 flavors of ice cream and sorbet at the Ice and Chocolate Studio, open daily from 12 noon to 10:30 p.m. You can have as much as you want, as often as you want, and you're encouraged to try all 40 flavors. Are you up to the challenge?

Death by ice cream, indeed!

Paris tourism

As if we didn't need another reason to visit Paris... Berthillon ice cream has been homemade by the Chauvin family in a small shop on the Ile St-Louis since 1954. Though this video [removed by the owner since this article was originally posted] recommends vanilla (which I haven't tasted), my recommendation is their chocolate ice cream. Rich, creamy, and utterly decadent! There must be a high fat content, but Berthillon is worth the calories and cholesterol. As they say, you only live once!

Located at 31 rue de Saint-Louis-en-l'Ile, you can choose from among 50 all-natural flavors. Perhaps this video will whet your appetite for another visit to the City of Light!
