comp airport transfer | Peninsula Hong Kong

The Peninsula Hong Kong is one of the iconic hotels of the world. Located on the Kowloon side of Victoria Harbour, the hotel offers a commanding view of the Hong Kong skyline from its Grand Deluxe Harbour View rooms.

The hotel has been through a thorough renovation, and we stayed in a Courtyard view room during our last stay. The room was extremely comfortable, with an easy-to-use electronic control panel that I could operate without having to put on my reading glasses! We would stay at the Peninsula again in heartbeat.

And to make something so great even better, Virtuoso guests can include a one-way airport transfer with a minimum two-night booking in a Deluxe, Courtyard, or Grand Deluxe room. And this isn't just any transfer. We enjoyed our transfer in one of the hotel's fleet of Rolls-Royce Phantoms.

This promotion is valid for stays through August 31, 2016. Our clients receive both the Virtuoso amenities (daily buffet breakfast for two and $100 F&B or Spa credit) as well as PEN Time — flexible check-in and check-out times. So if you arrive very early or leave very late, you've got a place to call home whilst in Hong Kong.

Peninsula Hong Kong | truly elegant Kowloon hotel

First, a word about Hong Kong and the protests. I didn't see or hear the slightest indication of any disruption during my twenty-four hours in Hong Kong. I spent a day in Kowloon at the iconic Peninsula Hong Kong. Booked through a Virtuoso/PEN Club agency, you'll receive a complimentary daily buffet breakfast for two; a $100 hotel credit good towards food, beverage, and spa; upgrade if available; and flexible check-in/check-out times ("Pen Time").

A truly elegant hotel, a uniformed doorman will usher you into the Peninsula's grand lobby where you can enjoy Afternoon Tea or just enjoy a drink. I last visited the hotel in 2007. It has since undergone a total renovation of the guest rooms, and I loved the outcome! We stayed in a Deluxe Courtyard Room, and I would not hesitate to recommend this room to clients. Of course, you can book a Grand Deluxe Harbour View room and enjoy the view of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong skyline beyond.

What to do in Kowloon? Plenty of high end shopping, local food (we had dinner at Jade Garden, right by the Ferry terminal), and the nightly light show over Victoria Harbour.

sunrise in Paro, Bhutan

It's our last morning in Bhutan. Woke up early, looked out the window, and knew that I wanted to capture this scene for my memories. The sun, peaking over the tops of other mountains, caught the snowcapped peak of this mountain just right. Amankora Paro has a beautiful setting, and this is the view from the resort's main lounge.

Later today we fly back to Bangkok ... and tomorrow, we fly to Chiang Rai for a quick one-night site inspection of Four Seasons Tented Camp. Be watching this space, because obviously there's still more to come over the last days of our trip. (Not to mention one final night at the Peninsula Hong Kong - hopefully things will be peaceful during our stay).

Bhutan | Amankora journey

This is the national emblem of Bhutan - the destination of my next trip. Be watching here over the next few weeks to read about and see some of the scenery and culture of Bhutan.

After three days in Bangkok, we fly to Paro to begin our nine-day Amankora Journey.

The map above shows the locations of the five lodges in Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey, and Bumthang (from west to east). We will be spending one night in Thimphu and two each in the other lodges.

Be watching for much more news from our trip. We will spend our first three nights at the FS Bangkok (with site inspections of the St. Regis and The Siam) before flying to Paro. On our return to Bangkok, we will spend one night at Four Seasons Tented Camp (I'm especially looking forward to reporting back about this fabled resort). One final night at the newly renovated Peninsula Hong Kong (and sampling their Rolls Royce transfers) before heading back to San Francisco.

Lots of photos and site inspections to follow… keep watching this blog!

third night free at Peninsula Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of the world's most fascinating cities. The picture above of Victoria Harbour, juxtaposing a traditional Chinese boat with Hong Kong's contemporary skyline, is typical of what you can expect in this great city that contrasts the traditional and the modern. Now is a great time to consider visiting Hong Kong, a destination in itself as well as a great base for exploring the rest of Asia. Why? There are so many tempting values!

The Peninsula Hong Kong is a true five-star hotel. Located on Kowloon Island, facing Victoria Harbour and the skyline of Hong Kong, the Peninsula is renowned for service. White-gloved doormen open the doors when you enter or leave the lobby, and no visit to Hong Kong is complete without experiencing Afternoon Tea at the Peninsula Hong Kong. And with the hotel's new Pay for Two Nights, Get the Third Night Free promotion, now is the time to plan that trip.

Here's the deal. The promotion is valid from Nov. 15-Dec. 28 and again from Jan. 3 - March 18. Stay two consecutive nights at Virtuoso rates and receive a third night free. You will also receive the following complimentary Virtuoso amenities:
  • Daily buffet breakfast
  • a set dinner in The Lobby (once per stay and blackout dates apply)
  • Late check-out until 4 p.m. subject to availability
  • Upgrade to next room category subject to availability upon arrival
(Free night offer does not apply to Superior, Grand Deluxe Harbour View, Deluxe Harbour View Suites, or above).

Similar valuable amenities are available at over 800 Virtuoso hotels and resorts around the world. Why pay for breakfast when you can enjoy it with the hotel's compliments, simply by booking through a Virtuoso travel consultant.
